Client Service and Guide Dog Training Team Leader - Auckland, New Zealand

One of New Zealand’s most trusted and iconic Not for Profit organisations, we need a Client Service and Guide Dog Training Team Leader to join us. You will help the organisation achieve our vision of a “life without limits” for New Zealanders who are blind or who have low vision.


Blind Foundation guide dogs give people who are blind or have low vision freedom and independence. They help people to get around safely and confidently. This role leads and manages a team of specialty trainers to ensure that dogs are trained to a high standard and are able to be successfully matched with clients. This role has overall accountability for the training of guide dogs, the management and oversight of Guide Dog Trainers, Guide Dog Mobility Instructors and for supporting clients to be ready and able to live independently with the assistance of a guide dog. Day to day this role will involve establishing dog training techniques and programmes based on international best practice, taking a lead role in the matching of dogs to clients, and ensuring appropriate processes are in place before, during and after training and matching.


What we are looking for:

  • A Guide Dog Mobility Instructor Certification.
  • 4 years as a cadet and 4 years guide dog experience.
  • Significant experience working with blind, deaf-blind and vision-impaired adults and teenagers.
  • An ability to communicate and work with our clients.
  • Proven experience in managing and leading a team.
  • Ability to work with a wide range of people, from varying and diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong planning skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • A current drivers licence or designated driver.
  • Ability to travel within New Zealand on a regular basis and at short notice in the event of an emergency.
