Brief Job Description:

Puppy Raising Coordinator

Job Description:

You are a high performer with a commitment to purpose. You possess courage to pursue your areas of passion and expertise and are not afraid to actively contribute to a workplace of trust, freedom and responsibility. You understand the value of giving and the power of a story to change perspectives. Empathy and care are key in your interactions with people.

Guide Dogs change lives. It is the independence and freedom offered by these dogs to our clients that keeps us going.

We are seeking a dynamic individual to coordinate our Puppy Raising Program. A key focus of this role is on the recruitment, retention and development of Volunteer Puppy Raisers to ensure that pups are provided with appropriate socialisation and training so that they can successfully enter into Guide and Assistance Dog Training.

Our Puppy Raising Program is fundamental in the training of puppies to become successful Guide Dogs. It is a structured training program which is supported by an experienced team dedicated to providing guidance and supervision to our volunteer puppy raisers.

To be considered for this role you will need:

  • Relevant qualifications in Animal Science, and/or Dog Health Care and Husbandry
  • Demonstrated experience in dog handling and behaviour training
  • Practical demonstrated experience in puppy training and early socialisation, dog handling and assessment of temperament and behavioural traits and behavioural modification techniques. (International Guide Dog Federation accredited organisations preferred)
  • Ability to train and supervise a team of volunteers and staff
  • Willingness to be hands-on in a range of tasks relating to pups/dogs care
  • Ability to work well within a team, as well as independently

This is a full-time 12-month contract (parental leave cover) with the possibility for extension.
