Training Class Supervisor/Apprentice Program Manager
The Guide Dog Foundation for the Blind, Inc., based in Smithtown, New York located on Long Island (known for its close proximity to New York City, and its beautiful beaches) seeks a Training Class Supervisor/Apprentice Program Manager. The position is responsible for preparation of dog strings for students, apprentice development, and guiding and evaluating Instructors in matching dogs to students, assuring safe, quality dog/person teams. As a member of the Training Department, the Training Class Supervisor assumes a number of ancillary duties as assigned, outside their class and dog training responsibilities. This requires:
•Must have achieved qualified guide dog Instructor status. Knowledge and ability to train in Positive Reinforcement training methodology preferred.
•Possess excellent interpersonal, analytical and communication skills, interacting with consumers and staff in an effective, professional manner.
•Must be able to travel throughout the US and Canada, possess a valid driver’s license, work weekends, evenings and holidays including overnights in residence as needed.
•Communicate via voice mail, email, able to use Microsoft word, spreadsheets and database applications effectively.
•Bilingual preferred; at a minimum, able to understand and to make one’s self understood to all Spanish speaking individuals.
